Three Easy Tips for Tricky Jar Lids

Opening Jars at Augustines of Central

At Augustines of Central, we celebrate simple processes.

We use traditional methods to create our award-winning fruit preserves, jams and chutneys. Individually sealed by hand, our syrups can crystalise on the rim of our glass jars and create a sticky seal.

Our Central Otago-grown Black Doris Plums in Pinot Noir and all other products are hand-preserved by Gus in a syrup made from the wine of Central Otago. The sugary residue that forms around the rim is a hallmark of our authentic methods and hand-crafted artisan charm.

Don’t wait for help. Do it yourself!

Unscrew your Augustines of Central jar lid effortlessly with these tried-and-true jar opening hacks.

Soak & Twist

Pour warm water an inch high into a dish and place your Augustines of Central jar upside down inside, ensuring the lid is fully submerged. Allow to soak for two minutes and give the jar lid another try.

Tap & Turn
Gently tap the rim of your jar lid against a countertop, rotating the jar slightly after each tap. Once you’ve made one full rotation, your jar should open easily.

Break the Seal
Carefully puncture a small hole into the centre of your jar lid using a strong knife or nail and hammer. This will break the vacuum seal and make it easier to unscrew the lid.

Sealed with love, opened with ease

We know at Augustines of Central that quality takes time. For moments where time is of the essence, we’ve got just the tool.

Available in multiple colours, our Augustines Jar Keys will help you access our fruit chutneys, jams and preserves range faster and with ease.
